Why this place
Itatiaia National Park spans the Mantiqueira between Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais and combines two very different experiences. The lower section protects Atlantic Forest, waterfalls and rich birdlife; the high plateau contains alpine-style grasslands, Prateleiras and Pico das Agulhas Negras, one of Brazil’s classic mountaineering objectives. Travellers can build anything from gentle nature days to technical summit outings.
