Why this place
Florianópolis is unusually broad for a beach destination. The city spreads across Santa Catarina Island and the mainland, combining surf beaches, calmer family bays, dunes, lagoons, preserved nature, seafood culture and neighbourhoods with very different personalities.

Surf beaches, calm bays, lagoons, dunes, Atlantic Forest, seafood villages and nightlife are spread across a large island and mainland city. Floripa works best when you match your base to your priorities instead of trying to commute to a different coast every day.
Joaquina and Campeche face open ocean; northern beaches can be calmer and more developed; smaller southern communities feel different again. “Near a beach” is not enough information when booking.
Lagoa da Conceição gives access to dunes, surf coast, restaurants and nightlife and remains one of the most versatile bases for travellers who want variety.
Oysters, seafood and Azorean-influenced communities such as Ribeirão da Ilha add a cultural reason to travel beyond the sand.
