Arena Pantanal is a multi-purpose stadium that was built to serve as one the venues for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It replaced the old Estádio José Fragelli (Verdão), which served as the main football stadium for the city of Cuiabá.
History of Arena Pantanal in Cuiaba
Estádio José Fragelli was demolished in 2010, with work on the new stadium commencing later that year. Due to its Location adjacent to the region of Pantanal, which is known for its rich fauna and flora, sustainability heavily influenced all aspects of the stadium. This attempt to preserve the surrounding environment as best as possible, created some challenges for organisers and added to delays in stadium construction. (more…)
