    Germany booked their place into the 2014 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals, after an end-to-end game they won 2-1, in extra time against Algeria. Andre Schurrle who came on for Mario Gotze back-heeled a low Thomas Mueller cross before Mesut Ozil blasted in a second. The Desert Foxes of Algeria netted a consolation goal with just seconds remaining on the clock as Abdelmoumene Djabou jabbed the ball in at the far post. (more…)

  • Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro

    Built for the 1950 FIFA World Cup, officially named after legendary journalist Mario Filho, the Estadio Jornalista Mario Filho is better known as the Maracanã Stadium. Built from August 1948 and officially opened on 16 June 1950 the Maracanã Stadium has played an iconic role in the history of football. Built to be the largest stadium in the world it boasted a capacity of 200 000 people. It is on this hallowed ground that Uruguay shocked the hosts by clinching the 1950 edition of the tournament with a 2-1 victory.

    Fifa World Cup 2014 FavouriteWith the final countdown to the greatest sporting event on the planet entering the home stretch, fans of all 32 teams are beginning to whey up their options of picking up the illustrious trophy as all 32 provisional squads have been announced. England and Brazil have already named their final 23 man squads with the rest of the participating nations having up until the 2nd of June.
