The stadium is co-owned by the state of Pernambuco and a private consortium. Its name stems from the sale of naming rights to beer company Itaipava.

    The city of Recife is the home of three historic Brazilian teams in the shape of Nautico, Santa Cruz and Sport. The big stadium of Itaipava Arena Pernambuco is however, the home of six-time state champions Clube Nautico Capibaribe, also known as Náutico. Náutico, as of 2013, is competing in the Serie A, Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.
